Shiva Mahavatar Babaji - By Pola Churchill

Excerpt below:

"Chapter 3 - WHO IS BABAJI?

"What is Babaji's mission in this avatar? What is the main purpose for which SADASHIVA has Himself taken human form and is now moving among us? "These questions are answered by LORD KRISHNA in the BHAGAVAT GITA, when he tells Arjuna that, whenever evil and sin (asharma) increase beyond limit, the Gods come to the world to protect good from evil. "Mahendra Mahararaj, in his book Divya Kathamrit, narrates how human beings lose completely their morals and become very unhappy. The people start enjoying all the various material comforts, hoping to get bliss and happiness, while in actuality they are becoming more and more sorrowful, fearful and unhappy. "Though humans acquire deep knowledge of science, they are really ignorant of the true knowledge. Though they are busy all the time working to acquire happiness, they do not do any practice (sadana)which would lead to real hapiness. Thay are completely confused, they cannot differentiate between truth and untruth." At this stage, Babaji said,"I have decided to get into the human world, to remove all ties of sorrow. I have to teach them how to stay detached, even while completely attached to day to day life" He also said,"The basic work would be to change the hearts, only then would all living beings obtain happiness.Hence, my most important work would be to change the hearts and minds of men."

To ask the question, "Who is Babaji?" would be an endless answer. This book would never be completed, as He is infinite. We can only just begin to perceive the "tip of the iceberg" as to who He really is. This is my humble experience and perception of who He really is. He is the embodiment of living souls, sentient beings and insentient. He is inside everything from a grain of sand and speck of dust to the solar systems and the galaxies of the universe. His energy is unfathomable, we can never fully understand who God is completely, and we can only describe Him. He is the gateway to the other worlds, and is the deathless master, Guru of Gurus. He is God in human form, and the creator of the universe. He has undertaken such a huge mission and plan for our salvation to uplift humanity and to get us back to our source. He is real, here and now at this moment; He can be as close as you want him to be, He is in your every breath. Being in and around Babaji's energy is almost like being in another dimension. All loving, all pervading, all protecting, it is all knowing and powerful. It embraces your every movement and thought, and offers waves of compassion and heartfelt feelings of joy, sadness, laughter and quiet stillness and solitude. Sometimes when you are alone in your darkest moment and you think that He is not there for you, suddenly in a moment, you feel a sign of comfort or hope when He wants you to know He's there with out stretched arms, waiting for you to fall into His safety net, like a lost, innocent child, stumbling and finding it's way. But don't think you can rest for one minute, he pushes you to the maximum limit. He is like a freight train roaring through your living room, saying, "Wake up! Be alert!Get into action! Annd wake up the human spirit for all of humanity to experience this endless power and love that is available... you would just die if you felt just one spark of the infinite" To feel the depth and strength of His love and the intensity of such emotions escalating through your blood makes you feel alive. The faith you can devlop through the pain you hold in your heart from day to day tribulations is the stuff that makes you grow. He helps us to transform our "darkness into light" by a cartharsis of purification of mind and body.He is here to help and guide us through these tragic, chaotic times, and to comfort us when death is dancing all around us.

Chapter 4 - BABAJI'S TEACHINGS

Babaji's teachings can be exemplified in three ways : TRUTH - satayut. SIMPLICITY - saralata. LOVE-prema.

TRUTH - the truth is God's eternal law. The truth starts with your thoughts- mind, body and spirit. The mind contols everything. Therefore, a balance of harmony within the individual is recquired for the expression of truth. SIMPLICITY -simplicity means living a simple, comfortable life, detached from the material world. This does not mean complete renunciation of necessary things or giving up an active role. LOVE - love is the essence of all things; "love is God, and God is love" recquires a sense of unity and harmony with the Universe, and the most importantly, with oneself. If you are in alignment with the eternal law, you are living your truth. Babaji said,"I don't want you to talk about truth, simpicity and love, I want you to live it" Human pain and sufffering are created only by our ignorance and separation from the eternal law. The only way to heal this, is to do purification techniques through discipline(sadhana). Babaji's discipline gives us freedom- the true freedom of spirit. During the process of transformation, we may experience resistance to confronting particular issues. What is helpful in this instance is complete surrender to God, so He can assist us. The power of prayer and affirmation is tantamount also.Offering your problems up to a higher wisdom of God, and to keep persevering is very important. Perseverance is everything. Methods that Babaji taught were Bakti yoga(prayer, devotion and worship) karma yoga(work offered to God while repeating the mantra OM NAMAH SHIVAYA)and Japa yoga (constant repetition of the mantra).

ASHRAM LIFE AS AS A STIMULUS TO CHANGE AND GROWTH. The schedule and style of life at the Haidakhan ashram were established and maintained by Babaji to help people break out of their old patterns of living and to establish new patterns, which foster self discipline and spiritual growth of the person who seeks God realization or a life in harmony and unity with the divine. Babaji exposed people to the experiences they needed in order to work through their problems and inner discipline. He would throw angry people together, to let them explode in fury at each other, and if they failed to learn to contol their tempers at that level, He let them taste His anger and their anger directed at Him. To those with over strong or uncontrolled desires for drugs, alchol, sex. money or whatever, He would allow them to indulge themselves to the point of stimulating their own desire to control the urge. He worked constantly at exposing people to themselves, so that they could pull away from their false, limited, unnecessary identifications of themselves."
